The Guinness Brewery

The Guinness Storehouse in Dublin

No visit to Dublin is complete without a trip to the Guinness Storehouse -- the Home of Guinness.  Located in the heart of the legendary St. James’s Gate Brewery in Dublin, this production site has been home to the Guinness Brewery since 1759, when Arthur Guinness signed a lease for 9,000 years.  The Guinness Storehouse building dates back to 1904 and is built in the style of the Chicago School of Architecture.  It was once the fermentation plant of the brewery and is now a seven-storey visitor experience dedicated to the history of this world-famous beer. The company is now a part of Diageo, a British company formed from the merger of Guinness and Grand Metropolitan in 1997. The main product of the brewery is Guinness Draught.

The Guinness Storehouse is undoubtedly Dublin’s most iconic site. In the brewery there is an exhibition on the 250-year-old history of the Guinness, incorporating elements from the old brewing factory to explain the history of Guinness production. Some of the old brewing equipment is on display, as well as stout ingredients, brewing techniques, advertising methods and storage equipment. The exhibition takes place over 7 floors, in a building the shape of a 14 million pint glass of Guinness. During your tour you will discover what goes into the making of each and every pint. At the Storehouse you can experience Guinness like nowhere else. As you make your way through the impressive exhibits, discover the age-old art of brewing that makes Guinness so distinctive; visit the Tasting rooms, a multi-sensory tasting experience designed to help you appreciate the distinctive taste of the iconic stout, from the very first velvet sip to the last lingering drop.

But that’s not it! As part of the tour, you can learn how to pour the perfect pint in the Guinness Academy.  Step into the wonderful world of the iconic Guinness advertising from bygone eras at the new Advertising Exhibit. Enjoy the best in Irish cuisine at the Guinness & Food Experience on level five. The highlight for many visitors is the Gravity Bar, symbolically the ‘Head of the Pint”, where you can enjoy an almost complete panorama of Dublin city and indulge in a free pint of Guinness.
